PJSC «MMC «Norilsk nickel» and State Corporation «Rosatom» in April 2022 announced their intention to take part in the competition for the development of the Kolmozerskoye deposit.
«Polar lithium», joint venture «Nornickel» and Mining Division of State Corporation «Rosatom» gained the right to use the Kolmozerskoye lithium deposit on February 8, 2023.
PJSC «MMC «Norilsk nickel» has a Policy on Indigenous Peoples' Rights, develops its updated version and acts as a leading partner in cooperation with the indigenous small-numbered and reindeer-herding peoples of the Murmansk region in the Kolmozerskoye deposit development project.

In June 2022, «Nornikel» held the first preliminary consultations with the indigenous small-numbered and reindeer-herding peoples of the Murmansk region on the Kolmozerskoye deposit.

In October 2022 at the International Forum «Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Development of Indigenous Peoples» in Murmansk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company A.E. Bugrov said that «Nornikel» shall adhere to the FPIC principle in consultation with indigenous communities that are in the zone of potential project impact.

At the consultation in Murmansk on February 8, 2022, the company confirmed its commitment to the FPIC principle.
From December 2022 to February 2023, an auction for the use of the subsoil was held. According to the results of the auction «Polar lithium» LLC was declared the winner, the license for the use of subsoil was issued on 21.02.2023 for 20 years.
